The launch of Splitgate 2, expected to be a revolution in multiplayer FPS, has been marked by controversy and criticism since its debut in June. The CEO of 1047 Games, Ian Proulx, appeared with a very controversial slogan, Make FPS Great Again, which generated a polarized reception among players. Additionally, the title has faced accusations for its aggressive monetization and technical issues, resulting in a notable decrease in players since its free-to-play launch.

Despite the initial expectations, the reality has been very different. The errors and the lack of game modes, such as the ranking system, were criticized by the community. Proulx has acknowledged that the game was released prematurely and that the studio’s ambitions exceeded its ability to deliver a polished product. In an interview, he admitted: We launched it too soon… we were too ambitious.
In light of this situation, 1047 Games has decided to unlaunch Splitgate 2 and return to a beta state. This move aims to completely redesign the game, with a relaunch planned for early 2026. As part of this renewed focus, the studio will shut down the servers of the original title next month and will carry out unspecified staff cuts.
1047 Games’ plans include greater interaction with the community, requesting feedback and organizing playtests to rebuild player trust. Proulx has emphasized that 95% of the studio’s efforts will focus on this relaunch, incorporating new features and game modes, as well as improvements to portal mechanics, in an attempt to regain the interest of a player base that is currently skeptical about the future of Splitgate 2.
