There are always rumors and leaks before the release of new iPhones, but this year it seems that the amount of details we are uncovering is higher than usual. And several of these details revolve around the charging cables of the new iPhone 15.

Several improvements in an everyday cable

According to leaks, the new USB-C cable expected to arrive with the iPhone 15 would have a braided design. Additionally, it’s also expected that the color of the cable will match the chosen color of the iPhone, similar to how it’s done with the HomePod mini.

But that’s not all; there’s an even bigger surprise—quite literally. It’s speculated that this cable will be 50% longer than the current Lightning cable that comes with the current iPhones.

Initially, when the first images of these braided cables started circulating, many doubted their authenticity precisely because their length seemed excessive for an iPhone. However, the latest information seems to confirm that Apple intends to offer, for the first time, a substantially longer charging cable.

Kosutami, a well-known Apple device collector, has been one of the main sources of details about this braided USB-C to USB-C cable that would accompany the iPhone 15. According to their data, the cable measures exactly 1.5 meters in length—compared to the current meter. A leak that was backed by Majin Bu, who also noted that these new cables would be much more durable than their predecessors.

In this regard, the braided design not only adds to the product’s aesthetics but these cables tend to be more robust and less prone to damage, even at their ends. As we’ve mentioned, regarding aesthetics, the new cables are expected to come in a variety of colors such as black, white, yellow, blue, and orange, reflecting the speculated new color options for the iPhone 15 series.

While the question remains of how Apple will fit a longer cable inside the iPhone box and the possibility of a redesign is raised, it’s clear that the change will be welcomed. Although the focus is often on the device itself, these small changes — including the potential farewell to leather cases with the iPhone 15 — are always intriguing. We’ll see, in a few weeks, what surprises Apple has in store for us.
