This mega facility, located in the province of Jeollanam-do, will have a capacity of 3GW, which is three times the capacity of the current data centers large-scale operated by tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon.

A data center that will amaze the world

The project has been co-founded by Brian Koo, heir to LG Electronics, and Dr. Amin Badr-El-Din, in partnership with Stock Farm Road. Additionally, it has the support of the governor of Jeollanam-do, Kim, which could facilitate the execution of the project.

The completion of the construction is scheduled for the year 2028, coinciding with projections that the global data center market will reach a value of 438 billion dollars.

However, this progress is not without challenges, mainly the dramatic consumption of energy and water, as well as the need for constant improvements in infrastructure to maintain the required standards. Despite these obstacles, Koo expressed that the project could “elevate Korea and the region to a new level of technological advancement and economic prosperity.”

In a context where other countries are also developing their infrastructures, such as the case of Meta, which will invest $10 billion in a new project in the U.S., generating 500 direct jobs, the data center in South Korea positions itself not only as a technological milestone but also as a strategic advance in the country’s global leadership in technology.
