If you are a fan of Final Fantasy, it is likely that you are already more than familiar with the moguri. They are one of the most iconic and beloved creatures in the saga (with apologies to the chocobos). However, the new design of the moguri in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is generating an unexpected rejection within the community.
And as they say, comparisons are odious. Before Rebirth, the moguri also made an appearance in Final Fantasy XVI, with a very adorable look. In Rebirth, things have changed a bit, as you can see in the following post by X:
Japanese users have been among the most critical of the new appearance of the moguri and many describe it as “creepy“. However, the community in general has quickly expressed their dissatisfaction with the design, which is very close to the uncanny valley.
However, don’t let the rodent teeth and strange teddy bear appearance of the moguri cloud your judgment: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been released with all honors on PlayStation 5 and has managed to be the highest rated game in the franchise in 23 years. Currently, Square Enix is working on a new patch that will improve the performance mode of Rebirth and also fix certain lighting aspects.
