Adobe has announced the integration of new generative artificial intelligence tools in Photoshop in order to provide users with greater control over the designs they create. These tools, based on Adobe’s Firefly Image 3 model, are already available in the latest beta version of Photoshop and are expected to be available to all users “by the end of this year”.
One of the standout features of this update is the “Reference Image,” which uses user-uploaded images to guide Adobe’s AI design generation, ensuring consistency in style and color. Instead of describing an object with a text message, users can provide a reference image for Photoshop to use as a guide.
It is important to note that users are expected to have usage rights over the reference images they upload. Adobe has implemented a warning message about intellectual property rights when using this tool for the first time. Additionally, the company is working on a “do not train” tag for its Content Authenticity Initiative, which will block the use of images as reference.
The images used as reference will not be used to train the Firefly model. Although the responsibility of ownership lies with the users, Adobe claims that this tool remains “safe for commercial use”, highlighting one of the main advantages of Firefly over other generative AI models.
Among the new generative artificial intelligence tools available in the beta version of Adobe Photoshop are also included “Generate background”, to create new backgrounds in images, and “Enhance detail”, which increases the clarity of the images. In addition, “Generate similar” allows you to produce similar content from reference images of Firefly, while “Generate image” allows you to generate a complete image from scratch from a text description.
The Adobe Firefly 3 image is also available in a global public beta version outside of Photoshop through the Firefly web application. The model promises “unprecedented photorealistic quality with improved lighting, positioning, and attention to detail”.
