Avatar is a franchise that has only released two movies so far, and yet we had to wait 13 years to see both of them. Back in the day, the constant delays of the sequel to James Cameron‘s blockbuster film became a subject of mockery, and it wasn’t until it finally arrived in late 2022 that we believed it was a reality.

However, “Avatar: The Way of Water” was just the first of many movies that Cameron had in mind. And as we have learned later, we will have up to 5 Avatar movies… plus whatever else Disney can do with the franchise now that they have the rights that belonged to Fox.

But when will the next Avatar movies be released? Although their releases were originally planned to be relatively soon, the Hollywood writers’ strike has caused further delays… and we could be facing a situation similar to that of the second movie.

Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 Release Dates

Initially, Disney was planning to release the next three Avatar movies in 2024, 2026, and 2028, with a two-year gap between each installment. However, they have been ultimately delayed. The new release dates are set for 2025, 2029, and 2031. All three films are scheduled to hit theaters in December of their respective years.

This means that James Cameron will be a whopping 77 years old when the final Avatar movie is released, an age at which few filmmakers manage to keep up with the pace. Regardless, we still have a long time to go before we can delve further into the world of the Na’vi, so it’s best to get comfortable and patiently await their gradual arrival.
