We have been waiting for several days, especially on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays of the last three weeks, when it seems that the announcement of the new iPads is imminent. But no. It seems that we will have to be patient and wait a little longer, as the rumors have set a date for the release of the new iPad Pro and iPad Air.
A little more waiting before the launch
According to Chinese leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, Apple may be planning some kind of announcement related to the new iPads on Tuesday, March 26th. However, the leaker did not commit to indicating this date as the official release, so we could be talking about the opening of pre-orders.
In the meantime, the Chinese website IT Home published that March 26 would be the release date, based on when third-party cases for the new 12.9-inch iPad Air are listed as available on Amazon. However, this interpretation could be based more on a random or assumed date rather than exact data.
This brings us directly to Mark Gurman, whose reliability in these situations is among the highest and suggests that Apple plans to launch the new models of iPad Pro and iPad Air towards the end of March or early April. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman seems to lean more towards a possible presentation in April.
According to the Bloomberg journalist, Apple is working on a version of iPadOS designed for these devices, and it would not be available until the end of March. Then, with the operating system ready, Apple would need a couple of weeks to install it on the new devices. In this context, Ross Young, CEO of research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants, has just published that the new models of iPad Pro with OLED screens will probably start shipping to customers in April.
However, it seems that there is still some time to see the new iPads. It is important to clarify one thing, though, and that is whether there will be pre-order. The launch of the Macs earlier this month announced that the new computers were already available for purchase and that the first units would arrive a few days later. However, if a schedule is proposed consisting of an announcement at the beginning of the week, the opening of reservations at the end of the same week, and arrival in stores a week later, the gap between the announcement and delivery increases substantially.
Let’s remember that along with the iPads, the new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro should also arrive with a larger trackpad, a partially aluminum structure, and other design adjustments, as well as a new Apple Pencil that, as far as we know, could have interchangeable magnetic tips.
However, even though we cannot rule out the possibility of an announcement today, it seems that we will have to be a little more patient. The exact announcements and release dates are still up in the air, but with several sources pointing towards late March or April, we will have to wait a little longer and stay tuned.
