In an increasingly competitive environment in which all the tech giants are embracing artificial intelligence, YouTube was not going to be left behind. While Microsoft is making it easier and easier for its users through new tools and Meta is making the Llama 2 code available to the general public to win the love of developers, Google’s video company has opted to greatly improve the lives of content creators thanks to a host of tools based on artificial intelligence, so that they can generate higher quality content more easily.

An ambitious bet on many levels

Youtube’s first proposal is based on one of TikTok’s most popular effects and is, in essence, a chroma (or green screen) generated by artificial intelligence that will remove the background in the videos and replace it with different backgrounds generated by artificial intelligence according to the user’s instructions. Although it is not known at this time what quality this will have or if it will look professional, this feature, which is called Dream Screen, seeks to facilitate the creation of unique fantasy scenarios to avoid boring and generic backgrounds.

On the other hand, Youtube is finalizing the development of a tool similar to ChatGPT, although with a more precise approach. In this way, with a generative artificial intelligence, the company wishes to provide creators with a tool that will help them to generate a brainstorming and, in the same way, to concretize project ideas that users only have in mind, crystallizing abstract approaches into somewhat more solid solutions. Also in this direction, Youtube proposes a music assistant that, through a description of the content, will offer the right music at the right price.

Finally, YouTube has proposed to create dubbing through artificial intelligence, something it has been testing throughout 2023. In this way, with an improvement of the voice-to-text transcription that Youtube already has and with a reading system, the company would aim to help creators overcome the language barrier to reach a wider audience. For the moment, however, this tool is being tested on selected creators in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

These are not the only new features brought by Google based on artificial intelligence, but they are some of the most promising, and promise to completely change the platform landscape.
