Movistar Plus is one of the most surprising streaming platforms today. It’s the home to gems like “La Mesías,” hailed as the best Spanish series of 2023. It has also produced other top-notch fictions such as “La Peste,” “Antidisturbios,” or “Arde Madrid.” But let’s not overlook that it also creates significant comedic ventures, like “Poquita fe,” “Vergüenza,” or “Mira lo que has hecho,” Berto Romero’s autobiographical series.

Berto, Andreu Buenafuente’s sidekick for many years, carried out this production, making it clear that his artistic side extended far beyond television, directly influencing fiction. And now, he has once again collaborated with Movistar Plus by creating and starring in a series that, this time, has nothing to do with him: “El otro lado.”

With a perfect blend of humor and terror, The Other Side transcends any barriers between these genres and takes advantage to add social and political satire everywhere. In the series, it’s not alone either; it’s accompanied by Andreu Buenafuente himself and another great Spanish director: Nacho Vigalondo. Eva Ugarte and María Botto also join a star-studded cast led by Javier Ruiz Caldera and Alberto de Toro.

But what is the series about exactly? The synopsis reads as follows:

Nacho Nieto, a journalist specialized in the paranormal, is going through his worst professional and personal moment. After a failed suicide attempt, he returns to life accompanied by the ghost of his mentor, Dr. Estrada, a legendary communicator of mysteries who passed away over 20 years ago. At that moment, a virulent poltergeist case crosses his path in an apartment on the outskirts of Barcelona, on Cardenal Cardona Street, perhaps the most significant paranormal case in recent years.
