Remedy Entertainment doesn’t stop. After the great reception of Alan Wake 2, the studio continues working on several projects, such as the sequel to Control and Project Condor. Now, their latest earnings report has revealed some interesting data about their financial status and the games they still have pending.
According to Games Industry, there was a 22.2% decrease in revenue during 2023, amounting to €33.9 million. In comparison, the previous year managed to obtain €43.6 million during the same period. As a result, Remedy has suffered losses of €28.6 million.
The Finnish company attributed this decline to the “increase in investments” in projects that are currently under development. But not everything was going to be bad news: despite 2023 being a “difficult” year for Remedy, its CEO, Tero Virtala, has also confirmed the success of Alan Wake 2.
According to Virtala, “Alan Wake 2 has already recovered a significant portion of the investments made by Epic Games” and adds that he expects “the game to be a significant engine of revenue and profitability for the year”.
The truth is that Remedy is immersed in several important projects. One of them is the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, which according to Virtala have a budget like Alan Wake 2. Fortunately for Remedy’s accounts, it is Rockstar Games who is in charge of financing these remakes.
Although we lack official data, Finnish analysts estimate that the cost of Alan Wake 2 was around 70 million euros in total.
