No matter how many people say that passive audiovisual content (series and movies, to understand) is a genre on the verge of extinction, the truth is that ‘Fallout’ has never been more popular than after the release of its eight episodes on Amazon Prime Video. The audience has rushed to play (or play again) its titles and it has even become the most played game of the month in Europe. However, its fate could have been very different if these two Vault Boy designs had ended up seeing the light of day. Pay attention to the controversy.

Ouch Boy

Vault Boy serves as a fun contrast to the sometimes grim post-nuclear world of ‘Fallout’ and the 1950s American atmosphere. He is the one who marks your new powers, the start of missions, and in general, has become the biggest icon of the saga. However, there are a couple of things you didn’t know about him.

And it is that in ‘Fallout 2’ there was a drawing that was considered so offensive that they decided to remove it from the game forever. If you killed several NPC children, the game gave you the reputation of “Child Killer”. And, to show such feat, you saw on the screen a drawing of Vault Boy kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach. And no, it wasn’t obesity, because it had the word “Baby” written on the t-shirt and an arrow indicating the place. Wow.

According to its creator, Brian Menze, he believed that this was the least offensive way to show the achievement of “child killer”: “I don’t know what I was thinking. Even the designer who asked me to do it realized it was a bad idea, so we removed it. Looking back, I can’t believe I drew it”. In the end, a drawing of Vault Boy fleeing from an angry mob was used. Much better.

But there was another drawing that was completely removed from the game: one in which the character appeared masturbating in the bathroom, earning the reputation of “Virgin of the Wastelands”, which had no effect on the game and could be removed by sleeping with any character. Pure bestiality.
