On Sunday, October 15th, the annual livestream event of Mojang, called Minecraft Live, was broadcasted. During this livestream, they showcase some of the most significant updates of the year, give awards to the community, and generally discuss everything that is coming to the game. Minecraft, seemingly an endless game, never runs out of content judging by the numerous innovations they presented. Although one announcement was particularly exciting, and that was their collaboration with Star Wars.
Nothing was more prominent than the unveiling of Star Wars: Path of the Jedi. This DLC is set in the timeless Disney universe. Among its new features are the inclusion of classic characters and settings from the movies, lightsaber battles, and Force powers, along with the ability for players to ascend through the ranks of the Jedi. That way, we can start as Padawans, but nothing will stop us from progressing towards becoming a true Jedi Knight. At least, if the Sith don’t get to us first.
All of this will hit the in-game store on November 7th. Just by watching its spectacular trailer, the wait until then will feel very, very long for many Star Wars fans.
In any case, that wasn’t the only thing Mojang took the opportunity to announce or showcase during this livestream. Another significant revelation is that Minecraft has now surpassed three hundred million copies sold. This keeps it in its position as the best-selling game of all time, surpassing the second-place holder, Grand Theft Auto V, by a considerable margin, with a substantial two hundred million copies sold. Rockstar Games hopes to challenge this record with GTA 6, but Mojang seems to be making it a tough competition. Whether the Force is with them or not, it appears that Minecraft has a long life ahead.
