The Walking Dead is a historical series that, in its best moments, could compete head to head with Game of Thrones in terms of audience. However, with eleven seasons under its belt, it went from being an acclaimed fiction to a rather forgotten one, and AMC wanted to give a great ending to the story of its protagonist.
For this reason, the network announced a trilogy of movies starring Andrew Lincoln that would close the story. But, from what they have just announced, they have finally taken a very different course: they will turn this finale into a separate miniseries that will close both the story of Rick Grimes and Michonne.
A love story that will conclude the Rick Grimes storyline
It has been during the Comic-Con when AMC, through the actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, have announced this change. The new series will be directed by Scott M. Gimple, showrunner of seasons 4 to 8 with great experience and love for the characters. We still do not know what the plot will be, but we do know that it will be a love story thanks to the synopsis of the fiction:
“An epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Separated by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of what they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a different place and situation than they’ve known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they alive or will they discover that they too are the Walking Dead?”
Even so, The Walking Dead still has a lot to say. Soon we will have a spin-off of the series starring Negan and Maggie, and AMC is preparing other sub-products to continue extending its zombie universe.
