The Wheel of Time is one of Amazon Prime Video’s biggest commitments to fantasy. While Apple TV+ has become the home of science fiction, Jeff Bezos’s platform is doing the same with this genre, with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as its main asset but with other similar series close by.
Among these series is The Wheel of Time, a series based on the books by Robert Jordan whose first season premiered in 2021. The fiction did not have too many positive reviews, but it did garner a large audience that caused the second season to be confirmed soon. Now, we know something more about what is coming to the platform in the future.
What will the second season of The Wheel of Time be about?
Considering that The Wheel of Time has 15 books, three of them posthumously finished by the literary Brandon Sanderson, it is clear that the series has as much future as it takes. In the case of the first season, the first novel was adapted, but much remains to be seen.
This new batch of episodes will continue to explore the fact that Rand is the Dragon Reborn, in addition to having more screen time for Moiraine as a protagonist. On the other hand, everything seems to indicate that we will continue to see the three-way relationship between Lan, Nynaeve and Moiraine herself.
“When I became really obsessed with The Wheel of Time was with the arrival of the Seanchans in the second book, because I didn’t know what was going to happen next because it’s so unique and it’s not the usual way of telling a story in these types of novels,” explains showrunner Rafe Judkins, making it clear that the second season will be very important. And he continues:
“I want them to have the same function in the series. They should slap the audience in the face and say ‘You don’t know what’s going to happen and this world is a lot bigger than you think.’ I hope the Seanchans do that in the series as well.”
On the other hand, Rosamund Pike has given more details about her character in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: “At the beginning, we only see a fraction of the layers that Moraine is going to show as the seasons progress. She doesn’t reveal all of her cards; in fact, she reveals very few. What she says to Egwene in episode two: ‘We always tell the truth, but it may not always be the truth that you think you’re hearing.’ That’s very important advice when it comes to the Aes Sedai because they can still cheat the truth […] Moiraine is very motivated. When we meet her in this series, she’s been on a mission for 20 years with a single purpose; she’s pursued this mission at the expense of friends and any personal desires. She’s very noble in that sense, but she’s almost terrifying.”
Thus, we can expect a second season full of twists and turns and in which nothing is what it seems, with even more prominence for Rosamund Pike’s character but with a world that continues to be established so that fans can integrate into it.
