Ciri is in danger! Everything is falling apart! Come on, Geralt, you must hurry to deal with those monsters plaguing the Continent! Although, well, there’s always time for a game of Gwent now and then. If you’ve played ‘The Witcher 3‘, you know that the game itself is good, but what really hooks you are the card games. Knowing this, CD Projekt created an exclusive spin-off that is now closing its doors. Well, sort of.

Gwent was born as a free-to-play game on October 23, 2018, on PC. Later, it was released on PS4, Xbox One, iOS, Android, and even Mac. The commitment was so strong that it was even launched with a spin-off that featured a campaign instead of focusing on online multiplayer, ‘Thronebreaker.’ At its peak, up to a hundred people were involved in its maintenance, improvement, and decision-making until, inevitably, it has come to an end.

According to the team, it was not an economic decision: it was motivated by the lack of new ideas for cards. And, as everyone knows, ideas are finite and you can’t get more. version 11.10 of the game has, therefore, been the final, leaving the players in the hands of themselves. As if it were a commune, the most powerful community members (those with Prestige 1 or those who participated a lot in the previous season) will decide each month which cards increase or decrease their power.

Between 3 and 15 cards will change to apparently make the game fairer while CD Projekt washes its hands after laying off about a hundred team members in recent months. By the way, the move backfired because instead of scaring the players, it encouraged them to form a union. What ‘The Witcher‘ has brought together, may not be torn asunder by bankruptcy.
