Not everyone knows that new content arrives on streaming platforms every month. Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, and Disney+ always compete to get the best releases. And today, it’s time to talk about the latter and December.

Christmas vacation is closer than ever, and now that we’ve reached the last month of the year, it’s time to take a look at Disney Plus’ novelties in this not-so-cold December of 2023.

There are plenty of Christmas premieres to enjoy this year-end, as the new movies and series debuting on Disney+ in the upcoming weeks are perfect for the whole family.

But not everything revolves around Christmas premieres; there are also action, adventure, and mystery movies and series. You might even encounter a nightmare or two along the way.

The four most powerful premieres on Disney+ in December

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (December 1)

In 1944, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and archaeologist Basil Shaw (Toby Jones) are captured by Nazis while searching for a legendary artifact in the French Alps.

Their quest takes an unexpected turn when they discover a device capable of time travel: the Archimedes Sphere. In 1969, a retired Indy returns to action after his goddaughter, Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), reveals a surprising truth about the dial.

The quest to keep the dial out of evil hands takes Indy from the streets of New York to Greece, Sicily, and around the world. Pursued by the villain Voller (Mads Mikkelsen), a rogue NASA agent, it’s a race against time.

The Shepherd (December 1)

RAF young pilot Freddie Hooke (Ben Radcliffe) faces one of his greatest challenges when a routine flight home on Christmas Eve turns dangerous. His plane loses all communications and electricity, leaving him adrift with dwindling fuel.

John Travolta, portraying a mysterious good Samaritan, steps in to offer an exit to the distraught and panic-stricken Freddie. It all revolves around hope and how miracles can be found where you least expect them in this short film produced by Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (December 20)

Based on Rick Riordan’s successful book series (which was also adapted into movies), this series offers another adaptation of the young adult novel. Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) is a seemingly normal 12-year-old boy who discovers he’s anything but.

He’s thrust into an extraordinary life as a demigod when Zeus (Lance Reddick) accuses him of stealing his lightning bolt. Accompanied by his friends Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), Percy embarks on an epic journey to clear his name while working to prevent a catastrophic war among the gods.

What if…? Season 2 (December 22)

This Christmas, Marvel Studios is gifting us the multiverse, but in a fun way. The second season of Marvel’s What If…? will premiere on December 22nd. And as a new trailer for the series reveals, things are about to get pretty wild.

The clips unveil a sort of motor racing world, a trip to a secret Avengers team from the ’80s, and a Renaissance setting that’s likely an adaptation of Neil Gaiman, Andy Kubert, and Richard Isanove’s Marvel 1602 series.

Disney+ SUSCRIBE

The first season of What If…? concluded with a multiversal threat that demanded the formation of a multiversal team of Avengers, and it seems that something similar will occur in this season.
