The mantra used to be that when summer arrived, the video game market practically disappeared until late September. It was two or three months of title scarcity, of not seeing anything new on store shelves. But that’s a thing of the past: now, any week in July or August is brimming with great works, and this week from August 14th to 20th is the prelude to what’s to come in the final two weeks.

At Softonic, we’re here to tell you about all the games arriving this week, many of them completely free. Get your notebook and pen ready.

Everspace 2 (August 15)

RockFish Games’ RPG arrived this past Monday, August 15th, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S after its debut on PC last year. No introduction needed, right? A spacefaring game where we’re in for a ton of enjoyment. And here’s the good news: it’s available on Xbox Game Pass, so you won’t be spending a single euro if you have the subscription.

Moving Out 2 (August 15)

Moving Out 2 is the sequel to a game that garnered a lot of attention for its unique physics-based gameplay. Cooperative play is highly recommended for some good laughs. It’s available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Hammerwatch 2 (August 15)

The second installment of this pixelated hack and slash game is one of the major releases this week. The first entry performed quite well, so it’s anticipated that the second will achieve similar success. It’s out now for PC, with releases for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and Nintendo Switch expected later this year.

Wayfinder (August 15)

One of the many games arriving for free this week is Wayfinder. Available for PlayStation 5 and PC, this colorful MMO free-to-play game aims to carve out a significant place for itself in the gaming market.

En Garde! (August 16)

One of the big surprises from the Summer Game Fest two months ago: En Garde! The fencing video game arrives on PC today after a resounding social media campaign fueled by users. Developed by Fireplace Games, a small French studio, this fun and humorous game where the sword takes center stage is poised to be one of the indies of the year. It’s available only for PC (for now).

The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood (August 16)

The new video game from the Valencian studio Deconstructeam arrives on August 16th with very positive previews. “The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood” is a narrative experience where we have to create our own tarot deck to shape our future. A seal of quality with music and pixel art that live up to the occasion.

Red Dead Redemption (August 17)

Is there anything else that needs to be said? The classic “Red Dead Redemption” is now arriving on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 over a decade later. Released in 2010, this port comes with quite a bit of controversy, as it costs 50 euros for the same game that was experienced on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Madden NFL 24 (August 18)

American football fans are in for a treat, as Madden NFL 24 releases on August 18th. What does this mean? It means that the annual installment of the Electronic Arts video game is finally here. It’s available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (August 18)

The spiritual sequel to Jet Set Radio arrives this August under the name “Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.” Good music, skates, and all the hallmark features that made the original game famous, but now with a new twist. It’s launching on PC and Nintendo Switch. Versions for Xbox and PlayStation will have to wait until September.
