The arrival of the Apple Vision Pro has marked a before and after in the world of space computing. A device with enormous potential in many aspects. But, what is it that really makes possible the revolutionary experience it offers? On the iFixit website, known for its exhaustive teardowns of the latest technological devices, it offers us a unique look inside the Apple Vision Pro, revealing the components that make the heart of Apple’s first space computer beat.

A full-fledged space computer

The disassembly carried out by iFixit reveals a complex assembly of cameras and sensors, fans, lens motors, and much more. Although accessing the inside of the device may be a bit difficult, what we see through the front screen, where the EyeSight system is located, is even more complete. However, there is good news regarding the repairability of the device; iFixit acknowledges Apple for the ease of replacing the speakers and the battery, considering them great victories in terms of repairability.

At the heart of the Vision Pro we find an M2 chip, which features an 8-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 16GB of unified memory. In addition, we can find up to 1TB of storage and we see the new R1 chip that processes input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones to ensure that the content appears in real time right in front of our eyes.

iFixIt also pays attention to the Battery Pack, composed of three iPhone-sized batteries, weighing 353 grams and providing a remarkable capacity of 35.9 Wh, which doubles the capacity of an iPhone 15 Pro. Its modular configuration improves portability and convenience while also ensuring greater device longevity.

The launch of the Vision Pro took place on Friday in the United States, and Apple announced that the new space computer will be available in more countries throughout the year. With this teardown, we have a vision – pun intended – of the cutting-edge engineering and design that Apple has integrated into the Vision Pro. A device that impresses when seen and tested and that marks a before and after in how we interact with technology.
