Bad news for driving enthusiasts. According to IGN, Ubisoft has removed their online racing video game The Crew from Steam. Additionally, the company has set a date for the shutdown of the game’s servers for those players who already own it.

According to the media, The Crew is no longer available for purchase in Valve’s digital store. However, the Steam version is not the only one that has been discontinued, as the digital versions for Xbox and PlayStation are also unavailable, as well as the Ubisoft store page. However, the Xbox version mentions that the game is still available on the Ubisoft+ subscription service.

In addition to removing The Crew from sale on all digital platforms, Ubisoft has revealed on the Steam page that the servers will remain online until March 31, 2024. After that date, “the game will no longer be accessible”.

In a statement sent to the website Video Games Chronicle, Ubisoft states that it has been necessary to delist The Crew “due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing limitations”.

“After almost a decade of support, we will be retiring The Crew 1 on March 31, 2024,” he said. “We understand that this may be disappointing for players who still enjoy the game, but it is necessary due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing limitations.”

“Our goal remains to offer the best action driving gaming experience to players and, to achieve this, we continue to provide new content and support for The Crew 2 and the recently released The Crew Motorfest“, he continues. “We thank everyone who played The Crew 1 and contributed to building this great community that is still alive with The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest”.

Ubisoft has also explained the situation in a post on their website, which includes a message from the developer Ivory Tower about the creation of The Crew and its legacy, and offers game owners the possibility to request a refund: “Players who have recently purchased The Crew game will be able to request a refund, depending on the refund policy of the store where they made the purchase.”
