When Game of Thrones ended, HBO quickly warned that this was just the beginning. Beyond the series based on George R.R. Martin’s books, the streaming platform planned to make the most of the world of Westeros by launching different spin-offs. This happened with House of the Dragon and, as we have been seeing lately, with The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the upcoming series about The Conquest of Aegon.
However, not all the spin-offs that were in progress are having the same good fate. In fact, HBO spent 30 million dollars on the pilot episode of a prequel with Naomi Watts that never came to fruition. And now we have just found out about another confirmed spin-off that, unfortunately, we will never have the pleasure of seeing.
The wall is unprotected
In an interview with Associated Press, actor Kit Harrington, who played Jon Snow in the series, was asked about the Game of Thrones sequel that was confirmed with him as the protagonist. The idea was to continue the story of his character after the series, when he returns to the Wall to fulfill the promise he made long before becoming the king of Winterfell and later the killer of Daenerys Targaryen.
However, his words have not been satisfying for the fans. “There are currently no plans in that regard. It is ruled out for now” were his only words, making it clear that they simply did not find the right story to tell in this sequel.
But could this change someday? Well, if we stick to the original showrunners, Dan Weiss and David Benioff, who are now the executive producers behind The Three-Body Problem, it might. Recently, Weiss and Benioff were asked about it by The Hollywood Reporter, to which they replied that perhaps it would be best to wait for Harrington to age in order to make it, as they could tell a more interesting story.
