Spam calls have become a frustrating and common problem for Android users, often leading us to ignore incoming calls altogether. Fortunately, Google offers a built-in call filtering feature that can drastically reduce these unwanted interruptions. With just a few taps, we can activate this tool and take control of who gets through to us.
How to enable Google’s spam call filter on Android
Most Android devices, including those from Samsung, Google, Xiaomi, Motorola, and others, come pre-installed with Google’s Phone app. Inside this app is where we’ll find the spam filtering feature that blocks suspicious calls before they reach us. If the app isn’t already on the device, we can easily install it from the Play Store.
To activate the filter:
- Open the Phone app by Google.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Go to Settings, then tap on Caller ID & spam.
- Enable Filter spam calls.
This feature not only blocks known spam numbers but also shows helpful information about incoming calls, such as whether it’s from a business or a verified source. While filtered calls won’t trigger notifications, they will still appear in our call log and voicemail inbox, so we don’t miss anything important.
How it works and what to expect
When we receive a call from an unknown number, Google checks its database to determine if it’s linked to spam or scam activity. If flagged, the call is filtered silently. In supported devices, this happens automatically, with no need for manual activation.
By using this tool, we gain peace of mind and avoid unnecessary distractions, making our phone a safer and quieter space.
