The early access launch of the new Sims competitor, Inzoi, is scheduled for about six weeks from now, and information about its features is being shared weekly. This weekend, the game director, Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim, provided more details about the life simulation features, focusing on the aspect of life after death and the inclusion of ghosts.
As every good Buddhist knows, everything depends on your karma
Despite the fact that Inzoi mainly focuses on realism, Kjun expressed his desire to incorporate fantastic elements into the game. “We want to keep the gameplay of the ghosts quite limited so that they do not overshadow the main experience, but we also want to ensure that the experience is engaging enough when it does happen,” Kjun commented on the official Discord server of the game.
The “ghost gameplay,” as described by Kjun, is related to Inzoi’s karma system. In previous tests, it was shown how certain actions affect karma, and Zois who die with an appropriate karma score will peacefully move on to the afterlife, while those with negative karma will remain as ghosts, trying to restore their karma. In the early access version, ghosts will be present, but players will not be able to control them, although there are plans to develop this feature later. Kjun mentioned that “any further development for the ghosts will have to come after the release.”
Additionally, Kjun did not rule out the possibility of exploring other paranormal elements in the future: “Although we are committed to refining the realistic elements of Inzoi first, I would love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future”. The similarities with the popularity of “hidden” creatures in The Sims, such as ghosts and vampires, suggest a growing interest from players who appreciate these mechanics within life simulators.
