Arc System Works has revealed a new exclusive title for the Switch 2 console, titled ‘Dear Me, I Was…’, which will be released this summer. This game is the result of the work of a team that includes Taisuke Kanasaki, an art director known for his work on iconic Nintendo DS titles such as ‘Hotel Dusk’ and ‘Another Code’. The game is directed by Maho Taguchi, who has emphasized that ‘Dear Me, I Was…’ is designed specifically for an adult female audience, with the intention of providing an exciting and positive experience.

Made to leave us speechless

What distinguishes this game is its innovative approach as a textless adventure game, a rare proposal in the realm of visual novels, which are usually loaded with dialogue. Taguchi mentions that the game is similar to ‘Florence’, a title that told a complete story through emotional mini-games instead of words. This suggests that ‘Dear Me, I Was…’ will seek to convey a deep and moving narrative through carefully crafted visual interactions and gameplay mechanics.

Visually, the game features an extraordinary watercolor style, with rotoscoped animations that provide a unique artistic experience, where the images seem to come to life from the painting. Kanasaki has shared that the animation process was a considerable challenge, given that each element was hand-drawn after filming live-action material.

Although details about the plot remain scarce, the official website describes the experience as a tale that encompasses the life of a woman, intertwining her story with that of other characters. With its focus on visual storytelling without dialogues and a captivating aesthetic, ‘Dear Me, I Was…’ is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases for Switch 2 users this summer.
