As you may know, Netflix has a project called Netflix Games that aims to turn its users into players with a pretty good catalog of mobile games (and indie computer games). Now another great title arrives.
The Rainbow Six world is about to change colors. Ubisoft has just revealed the latest spinoff of the franchise, a mobile game called Rainbow Six: Smol, which reduces tactical action and adds a lot of personality. The game is already available through Netflix Games for iOS and Android. You have to try it.
The game maintains what Forestié, the game’s creative director, describes as the pillars of the franchise – which include the Operators and the destructible environments to open up new strategies – but introduces a top-down perspective and a very cute artistic style. You can take a look at the trailer.
Shooting, tactics, and for all audiences: Netflix tries with Rainbow Six
The game was developed by a small team of 10 people at Ubisoft and, according to Forestié, Netflix was involved from the beginning, which means that the game was designed around the subscription platform and not around monetization. “That allowed us to not have to spend energy on microtransactions and ads so we could focus on the player experience,” he explained. Sincerely, we appreciate it.
Smol is part of an ongoing collaboration between Ubisoft and Netflix, which includes the animated series Captain Laserhawk and the upcoming adaptations of Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell.
The news also comes at a time when Netflix continues to focus on video games. Recently, the streaming service released the GTA trilogy through its service, which it described as its biggest game release to date.
