In a revealing interview with singer Dua Lipa, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, opened up like never before about his personal life, his career at Apple, and his opinions on topics such as philanthropy, the environment, and technology. Known for his discretion, Cook surprised with his sincerity and reflections, offering a unique insight into his world and his work within one of the most iconic companies on the planet.
From its beginnings to Steve Jobs, passing through AI, and much more
Raised in a modest family, Cook recounted his humble beginnings, recalling his days delivering newspapers and working at a burger joint to pay for college. These early experiences forged a resilient character and an unwavering work ethic, qualities that led him to graduate from Auburn University and have a successful career at IBM before joining Apple in 1998.
One of the most emotional parts of the interview was when Cook talked about Steve Jobs, the legendary co-founder of Apple. With admiration and respect, Cook described Jobs as “original” and asserted that only he could have created Apple. Despite Jobs’ passing in 2011, his legacy and influence continue to be a source of inspiration for Cook and many others in the industry.
In 2014, Cook publicly acknowledged his homosexuality, becoming the only openly gay CEO on the Fortune 500 list at that time. He spoke about how this act helped break barriers not only at Apple but in the corporate world in general, highlighting that there are still glass ceilings for LGBTQ individuals and women.
Dua Lipa, known for her activism on social issues, steered the conversation toward the excessive use of smartphones, especially among the younger generation. Cook acknowledged the need for moderate technology use, emphasizing features like Screen Time, designed to encourage mindful device usage.
Finally, the interview delved into topics of sustainability and technological responsibility. Cook emphasized Apple’s commitment to sustainable environmental practices and the importance of responsible AI, reiterating their dedication to equality and education. Overall, it was quite an unusual interview that offered a better insight into the top executive at Apple.
