Today, on Wednesday, September 27th, the documentary series “Reading Again Mafalda” premieres on Star+ and Disney+ with its four episodes. If you speak Spanish, Mafalda is one of those comics that accompanied you during adolescence and much more.
Directed by Lorena Muñoz, the new production takes a biographical journey through the iconic and forward-thinking character created by Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, known as “Quino,” from its inception as a commissioned advertisement character to its relevance among new generations nearly 60 years after its first appearance.

Mafalda is one of the most beloved and successful comic strip characters in the world. “Reading Again Mafalda” tells the story of Quino’s iconic comic strip and its sources of inspiration, revealing unknown facts about its origins.
Additionally, it revisits its most memorable comic strips through testimonials from renowned cartoonists such as Maitena, Liniers, Montt, Tute, Rep, Kemchs, and Raquel Riba Rossi.
With archival material, renowned artists, and cultural personalities from Latin America who confess to being Mafalda fans, such as Darío Barassi, Agustín “Soy Rada” Aristarán, Mariana Fabbiani, Consuelo Duval, Paty Cantú, Santiago Segura, Gabriela Sabatini, Manuel Ginóbili, among others, as well as interviews with historians, editors, friends, and family of Quino.
The series offers a fresh perspective on an author ahead of his time and his comic strip that was a part of everyone’s life and became a classic.
The four 30-minute episodes that make up the series follow the footsteps of Mafalda, from Buenos Aires to Milan, Paris, Madrid, and Mexico City. In the process, they reveal the comic strip’s early editions, its translations into dozens of languages, its color versions, and its animations.
The series also seeks accounts from editors and individuals close to Quino who describe how the comic strip expanded and how its creator established himself as an artist. Academic experts provide their insights into why Mafalda is a phenomenon that resonates with readers worldwide.
