At long last, Twitter has released a tablet optimized Android app. Previously, Twitter offered one app for Android, regardless of device. This meant that tablet users were using a “blown up” version of Twitter, which did not scale well to high resolution devices.
The optimized app for Android tablets features a familiar design, if you’ve used Twitter for iPad. There’s a column of icons to the left for your feed, mentions, discover, and profile. Your feed shows up in its own column, with content opening up within the app.
Unfortunately, Twitter for Android tablets is only going to be released on Samsung tablets for now. The company has paired up with Samsung to bring a “few unique features like multi-screen view and illustrations. Multi-screen view allows Samsung tablet owners to multitask with Twitter for Android tablets, which is one of the few supported multitasking apps for Samsung devices. Samsung users can also illustrate tweets by drawing directly from photos imported from the photo gallery.
Twitter promises to bring the app to other Android tablets “by the end of the year.”
