A group of researchers from Cyber Press has discovered a massive data leak of Twitter users, with a total of 9.4 GB of exposed information. The database, which contains about 200 million records, represents one of the largest data exposures of users in recent times. This leak includes email addresses, names, and Twitter account details, which could leave users vulnerable to phishing attacks, identity theft, and social-engineering tricks.
A user under the alias “michupa” made this database known in a hacking forum on July 7, 2024. The leak is organized into 10 files of 1 GB each; these files are publicly available for download. The team at Cyber Press has verified the accuracy of some email addresses from the included profiles, although the complete integrity of the data hasn’t yet been confirmed.
The investigations indicate that the leaked files have the following names:
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.001
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.002
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.003
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.004
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.005
– Twitter_b1nd.net.7z.006
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.007
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.7z.008
– Twitter_Full_b1nd.net.009

In light of this situation, Cyber Press urges users and organizations to take immediate action to protect their accounts and data. Recommendations include changing passwords, enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), and being vigilant against suspicious emails. It also advises monitoring accounts for unusual activity, reporting incidents to Twitter support, and reviewing security measures.
The Cyber Press team contacted Twitter to inform them about the leak, although they have not received any response yet. This leak occurs just three days after “RockYou2024”, the largest password leak in history, in which 9,948,575,739 unique passwords in plain text were disclosed.
