The Electronic Entertainment Expo, known as E3 for its abbreviation, which was once the largest convention and media platform in the video game industry, announced its death on December 12th.
At that moment, we could hear Geoff Keighley rubbing his hands together, as his goal for the past few years has been to fill the void left by E3 in the United States and strengthen his parallel conference called Summer Game Fest.
Now, with the E3 still fresh in our minds, this year it won’t have any competition. That’s why it doesn’t surprise us that on their Twitter account they have already announced the dates for the Summer Game Fest 2024.
Technically, we are still in winter, but it’s time to look towards early June. In the past, video game fans eagerly awaited a bunch of news from publishers and developers, who unveiled them at the E3 fair.
Unfortunately, the E3 officially closed at the end of 2023, despite efforts to bring it back to Los Angeles.
Now, an event that started a few years ago, the Summer Game Fest, is shaping up as a kind of substitute for E3. It started as a streaming-exclusive event, but since then it has expanded to include a live event as well and has provided complete announcements, release dates, and surprises for video game fans.
Today it has been officially announced that the Summer Game Fest 2024 will be streamed worldwide on Friday, June 7th, starting at 2:00 PM Pacific Time (5:00 PM Eastern Time). It will last about two hours. On that day, it will also be possible to attend the event in person at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
Microsoft has also confirmed that it will hold an Xbox Game Showcase event in early June, probably one or two days after the Summer Game Fest. We also expect to see game presentations from other publishers around the same dates, as usual.
