In 2019, Amazon Prime Video surprised us all with a fantastic series that, despite not making too much noise in its premiere, became one of the best in the genre: Good Omens. Based on the book of the same name by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, the fiction became a pleasant surprise for the platform, and after some time it was confirmed that there would be a second season.

However, since the first season ended we haven’t had any more news about the continuation of the series: and we finally have a release date. On July 28th, the second season of Good Omens will be released on its original platform: Amazon Prime Video.

A new season that does not follow the original book

The first season of Good Omens followed a very unusual couple: the demon Crowley (played by David Tennant) and the angel Azirafel (Michael Sheen). Accustomed and settled to life on Earth, both beings discover that the coming of the Antichrist is about to arrive, and with it the final battle between Heaven and Hell.

However, neither is willing to put an end to the earthly life that had suited them so well, so they begin a great odyssey in search of ending the arrival of the Antichrist and, therefore, the end of the Earth. Along the way they encounter all sorts of beings and characters, from Beelzebub played by Anna Maxwell Martin to Jon Hamm‘s Archangel Gabriel.

Without a doubt, the series was a surprise that even derived into Netflix‘s subsequent Sandman, which despite being from different platforms are set in the same world of Neil Gaiman. Now, we finally know when the new season will be, but do we know what it will be about?

The first season covered the entire original book, so this story must be new yes or yes. We have a first small synopsis in which we can get an idea of what will happen, although as is often the case with Gaiman, the paths are inscrutable:

“After having managed to avoid the Apocalypse, Azirafel and Crowley try to lead a quiet life among mortals in London’s Soho. At that moment, an unexpected messenger shows up with a surprising mystery.”

And that’s it. We don’t know more about what will happen in this new season, but it looks like we’ll once again see the two main characters united against something that’s much bigger than them. Undoubtedly, just for the harmony between David Tennant and Michael Sheen is worth the series. We’ll see about the plot.
