Observing the night sky has been a fascinating activity for humanity throughout the centuries. Lunar phases, in particular, have held a special place in our curiosity and have been used for a variety of purposes, from agriculture to astrology. With the advent of modern technology, it is now easier than ever to track the lunar cycle. For iPhone users, the update to iOS 17 has brought a notable feature in this regard: the ability to check lunar phases directly from the Weather app.
Detailed moon information in the Weather app
In the past, astronomy enthusiasts needed to download specific applications or visit specialized websites to obtain information about lunar phases. However, with iOS 17, Apple has integrated this feature into the Weather app, allowing us to see when the next full moon will be with just a couple of taps on the screen.
Accessing this information is extremely simple. First, we open the Weather app on our iPhone. Then, we scroll down to find the section detailing the current lunar phase along with a graphical representation. By tapping on this section, it expands to show us a lunar calendar, where we can see the date of the next full moon, as well as the dates of future lunar phases.
Additionally, we can slide the slider at the top to see exactly how the moon will look at a specific time. This feature is useful, for example, when taking a specific photo or planning to observe our satellite; the app provides precise information.
The integration of lunar information into the Weather app is not only very convenient but also a great way to promote appreciation for astronomy in a very simple manner. Being able to access this information out of curiosity, even through Siri, is clearly something interesting.
With iOS 17, Apple continues to expand the capabilities and utility of native applications, making it easier for us to access relevant information quickly and effortlessly. The next time we’re curious about when the next full moon will be, the information will be in our pocket. Our iPhone has the answer.
