Will Wicked have a third part? Universal is considering it

The movie Wicked: For Good has debuted with an impressive success, grossing 150 million dollars in its opening weekend. This fantastic start puts it on track to match or even surpass the 700 million dollars achieved by its predecessor. This remarkable performance is largely attributed to a pervasive marketing campaign that has kept Wicked as a reference in popular culture over the past year.

Expanding the Vast World of Oz

Universal Pictures, aware of the cultural impact and box office success of the franchise, is exploring the possibility of expanding its cinematic universe inspired by Wicked. Michael Moses, the company’s marketing director, stated that they have almost a responsibility to figure out how to continue in this universe, although he admitted that they have not yet reached a definitive solution.

Regarding future stories within the world of Wicked, Stephen Schwartz, the original composer of the musical, and Winnie Holzman, the screenwriter, are considering ideas for a possible sequel or an accompanying work. However, both feel that the narratives of Elphaba and Glinda have reached their conclusion. The story of Glinda and Elphaba feels complete, Schwartz commented, although he acknowledged that there may be other angles to explore.

One of the possibilities being considered includes the adaptation of other works by Gregory Maguire, such as Son of a Witch and the Another Day trilogy. However, it is believed that to carry out these adaptations, it would be necessary to make significant adjustments to align them with the style and narrative already established in the films.

Although the future of the Wicked franchise seems uncertain, the combination of current box office success and ongoing creative discussions has left the door open for new adventures in the magical world of Oz.
