Would you pay more for better sound on YouTube? These are Google’s plans for the platform
YouTube is testing an audio quality control feature, but it may be exclusive to Premium subscribers. Will this convince more users to pay for a better listening experience?

YouTube is constantly looking for ways to enhance its Premium subscription, and the latest addition could be an audio quality control feature. While users have long had the ability to adjust video quality, audio settings have remained static. That may change soon, but only for paying subscribers.
YouTube is testing a new audio quality control
Recent findings in the YouTube beta app suggest that an adjustable audio quality feature is on the way. According to reports, users might soon have three options: Normal, High, and Auto. This would allow greater flexibility depending on internet speed and individual preferences.
However, there is a catch. Unlike video quality settings, which are free for all users, audio controls may be locked behind the YouTube Premium paywall. This move follows a trend of YouTube restricting features to encourage more users to subscribe. While Premium already offers ad-free viewing, background play, and offline downloads, adding exclusive audio controls could be a strategic push to attract audiophiles.
Will better audio convince more users to subscribe?
While adjustable video quality has been a standard feature for years, audio quality has always depended on the original uploader’s file. If YouTube proceeds with this upgrade, it could significantly enhance the listening experience, particularly for music and podcast enthusiasts.
However, many users might feel frustrated by the increasing limitations on free access. With YouTube continually moving features behind a paywall, some may wonder if this trend will ever stop. For now, it remains uncertain when – or if – this feature will officially roll out, but it is clear that YouTube is focused on making Premium more appealing.
