Elon Musk’s X platform is making significant changes. Musk aims to transform the social network into a multifunctional app that not only connects people but also facilitates payments and voice calls. In the midst of this transformation, Musk is expanding the X Premium service by introducing three new subscription tiers, one of which promises to eliminate ads completely.

What is X Premium?

X Premium, originally known as Twitter Blue, is a membership service that provides customers with a variety of unique benefits. The ability to personalize the app icon, modify posts, apply text formatting, upload lengthier material and videos, and obtain access to X Pro (previously known as TweetDeck) are among the benefits. Currently, X Premium customers see fewer adverts on their timelines than free users. Musk, on the other hand, is now providing the option to eliminate adverts totally, although at a higher membership rate.

Three new subscription tiers

According to recent disclosures from researcher Aaron, there are three more X Premium subscription tiers: Basic, Standard, and Plus. Users on the Basic tier will continue to view regular advertisements while using X. The Standard tier will have fewer advertisements, similar to the existing X Premium membership experience. Finally, the Plus tier will provide you with an ad-free experience. You can see Aaron’s post below:

Pricing and transition details

X Premium is now available for $8 per month or $84 per year. However, if you subscribe through the X app on iOS or Android, the fee rises to $11 per month or $115 per year due to the App Store and Google Play Store’s 30% commission. The cost for the new subscription tiers is unknown, as is the process for converting existing customers to these tiers.

Twitter/X is always experimenting with new monetization tactics, the most recent of which are these subscription levels. While the classification into Basic, Standard, and Plus categories is established, the particular features contained in each category remain unknown. It is not a mystery that Musk constantly looks for ways to monetize the platform using different methods.

While the reduction in advertisements is appealing, it is unclear what extra services these levels would provide and how they will be dispersed throughout the tiers. Given the competitive world of social media, Twitter/X must deliver compelling features to justify consumers’ financial commitment.

It’s important to note that this subscription tier experiment is still in its early stages, and the appearance of code in an update does not ensure its implementation. Nonetheless, Elon Musk’s desire to investigate revenue opportunities for Twitter/X is well known. Fidelity Investments valued Twitter in May at around one-third of the $44 billion price Musk paid for it, underlining the importance of identifying viable income sources. Keep an eye out for further information on X’s growing membership tier plan.
