Xbox decides to follow in PlayStation's footsteps and will raise the price of its Xbox Series

In a move that surprised many in the video game industry, Sony raised the price of the PlayStation 5 by 50 euros, bringing the cost of the digital model, without a disc drive, to 499 euros.

This price adjustment adds to the growing trend in the sector, where the company argues that it is necessary due to market conditions and the increase in development costs.

Starting May 1, Phil Spencer’s company has announced a price increase on all its consoles, games, and accessories, also by 50 euros. The Xbox Series S, in its 512 GB version, now costs 349.99 euros, while the Xbox Series X, with 1 TB of storage, has risen to 599.99 euros.

The increase even affects Xbox controllers, which have seen a similar price adjustment, with options now ranging between 64.99 euros and 199.99 euros, depending on the model.

In addition, Microsoft has set a new price of 79.99 euros for AAA titles, an increase of 10 euros compared to the current rate. However, this increase does not apply to its Game Pass subscription, which remains at its usual price.

Both companies justify these increases as a response to the difficult market situation, although at this rate, the prices of future consoles could become comparable to those of a gaming PC, raising questions about the long-term strategy of these brands.
