YouTube has been improving the quality of videos uploaded by users through artificial intelligence, a change that has generated controversy among content creators.
Although these improvements have been made with the intention of optimizing the user experience, many creators feel upset because these changes have been implemented without their consent.
The main concern is that creators’ videos have been altered, generating distrust among their audience. Some users claim that their videos exhibit an “oil painting” effect, which has led to speculation about the use of an AI filter in YouTube Shorts.
YouTube faces backlash after modifying user-uploaded videos using AI
However, the platform has stated that it does not use artificial intelligence for video scaling, but rather employs traditional machine learning technologies to enhance clarity and reduce noise.
This issue is not new and has sparked extensive debates about the ethics of using technology without the knowledge of the creators. By avoiding the use of artificial intelligence in their content, some creators have been accused of “lying” for being unable to prove that their videos have not been altered by YouTube.
This dilemma not only erodes trust in the platform but also affects the individual credibility of content creators.
Despite the complaints and concerns, it seems that Google shows little interest in addressing the feelings of frustration among creators. The lack of transparency has led many to question the ethics behind the changes made without prior notice. In an environment where trust is essential, YouTube’s actions could have lasting repercussions on the relationship between the platform and its users.
