It's a second trip into Space for the annoyed avians, following on the heals of Angry Birds Space. Angry Birds Star Wars retains some of the Space physics of the previous release, and there are new special abilities, including the use of the force, and light saber-wielding.

Presentation

Fans of the original movie, A New Hope, will adore Angry Birds Star Wars. It follows the plot of the film, taking you to all the iconic locations, including Tatooine, Hoth, and the Pig Star (modeled on the Death Star). The Angry Birds are themed around the heroes such as Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi and Han Solo, while the piggies dress up as stormtroopers, tuskan raiders and the like.

The locations and characters are gloriously recreated, and this, coupled with music from the original score, makes Angry Birds Star Wars the best presented version of the game series so far.

Gameplay

The basic gameplay in Angry Birds Star Wars is still the same as the original Angry Birds. You launch birds from a catapult at a structure in order to smash it and destroy the bad guys. Stars are earned based on how easily you achieve this, and progress to the next level.

There are some 80 levels in Angry Birds Star Wars and getting through them will take you a long time, even though the first few levels on Tatooine are very easy. There are some fun bonus levels too, in which you can play as C3PO or R2D2.

The gameplay in Angry Birds Star Wars has been tweaked a bit from previous versions of the game. You can now use the force to slow down your bird in mid flight, or swipe your light saber to break objects, for example.

Verdict

Despite these interesting additional gameplay elements, there's no disguising that Angry Birds Star Wars plays very much the same as previous versions. While fans of the Angry Birds franchise will enjoy this, others will find the game repetitive, frustrating and tiresome.

There's no doubt that Angry Birds Star Wars is a lavishly-produced arcade game, which fans of both the game and the movie will fall in love with.

Angry Birds Seasons collects together an awesome eight seasonal variations on the game and packs them all in. There's Angry Birds Halloween, Mooncake Festival, St. Patrick's Day, Angry Birds Christmas and more. The game divides them up into 2011 and 2012 and, obviously, as 2012 hasn't started yet, the selection there is much more limited, with only 1 season on offer.

The Angry Birds Seasons gameplay is the same as it has always been. Fire the multicolored, multi-talented birds at the fortifications created by the evil green pigs in an attempt to send them crumbling down. The more pigs and items you hit, the more points you get and the faster your progress through the game.

Angry Birds Seasons isn't much different from the standard Angry Birds, but it sure is fun. The creator of the game, Roxio, obviously put a lot of effort into planning the seasons, and everything from the items to the music is pitch perfect. If you're a fan of the original, you'll love this.

The game sees him team up with the unlikeliest of allies to save New York from a plague of militant aliens. Weirdly, once you've defeated the likes of Doc Octopus, Green Lantern and Venom in Spider-Man: Friend or Foer, they become allies and co-operate with Spidey to blast the bad guys.

Each of the fairly diverse levels in Spider-Man: Friend or Foe charges you with the task of defeating the aliens as you traverse from one end to the other. Unfortunately these baddies don't have much in the way of artificial intellegence, but because there are so many of the critters the game is still pretty challenging.

Graphically, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe borrows more elements from the comic than it does from the film, giving it a surprisingly humorous aspect. Humorous, that is, until Spidey's incessesant wise-cracking becomes boring.

That said, Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is a polished adventure game that fans of the Webbed Wonder simply cannot afford to miss.

Angry Birds Rio follows exactly the same set up as the original game, except this time the Angry Birds are rescuing their poor brethren who have been captured, caged and taken to Rio De Janeiro. Your job is to help the birds escape by bombarding the cages and smashing through all the obstacles in their way, including fluffy - but evil - marmosets!

Angry Birds Rio is very similar to the original, but as we have already seen, just because it's a simple idea doesn't make it any less addictive. If you liked the first, you'll love the tropical flavor and bright colors of Angry Birds Rio, while the familiar gameplay means you'll be firing birds and crunching through cages before you know it.

Jetpack Joyride has been on iOS and Android for a while now but it has finally made its way onto Windows 8. The game is designed for touch but you can still play with a mouse. The controls are simple. Tap/click and hold to fly higher. Let go to let gravity bring you back down. There are many games that use this flying mechanic but Jetpack Joyride's take on it is refreshing.

The beauty of Jetpack Joyride is the amount of power ups and items you can collect. There, of course, is an in-game currency, which you can spend real money on. Every time you play, you will be rewarded with more coins collected throughout the level. Save up your coins to buy power ups and different items to keep gameplay fresh.

The end of each level in Jetpack Joyride features a slot machine game where you pull a level to see what bonuses you get. You can either get more coins, items, or abilities. This random reward system keeps players coming back for more. Although the only goal is to get a high score, the game is still fun with variations in weapons, jetpacks, and challenges.

There is a lot to experience in Sleeping Dogs, from completing the main story to hijacking armored cars for the Triads. During your time in this fictional version of Hong Kong, you will use a mix of martial arts and weapons to accomplish different tasks from protecting the head of your gang to framing drug dealers.

Story

At the beginning of Sleeping Dogs, you learn about Wei Shen, a San Francisco cop who grew up in both Hong Kong and the United States. He returns to Hong Kong to work deep undercover, making his way up from foot soldier to sub-boss in his gang.

Shen has to work both as a cop and Triad member completing missions that help the police in their case while working as an upcoming member of his gang completing escorts and pickups up. As he works his way up, his missions become more in-depth and the conflict of his undercover status becomes strained as his dedication to the Triads stars to conflict with his police duties.

His dual lives become more and more difficult and ultimately conflict with each other.

Gameplay

Sleeping Dogs focuses on the main story missions and the variety of side-missions as well as collecting briefcases and finding health shrines.

The main story missions consist of police cases and Triad missions. Completing these missions will help level Shen to unlock new abilities like reduced gun recoil, taking less melee damage, and being able to slow down time when stealing a new vehicle.

Side-missions in Sleeping Dogs are small favors which usually require you to destroy cars, deliver goods, or framing rival gangs. There are also persistent side-missions like collecting the various jade statues in Hong Kong. These are used to unlock new martial arts moves. You also have to locate multiple health shrines to increase your health as the game progresses. There are also races that you can complete.

Smaller missions like going on dates with story characters unlock locations for these collectibles. These missions increase your "Face" rating which is a personal level system. While there are different moves learned through completing main missions, the Face rating opens new clothes and vehicles for purchase.

The combat system in Sleeping Dogs is excellent with melee martial arts taking the priority in the game. There are different enemy types requiring different strategies and the counter system is the most useful tool during combat. Learning new moves opens a consistent stream of moves that can be used against enemies, even those with weapons.

Weapon combat consists of melee weapons like knives and crowbars to guns. The melee weapons limit your attacks, but give more damage. Gun combat is polished only requiring a few buttons to aim and fire. Most of the time you will not be using guns except on missions where you have tons of weapons to reload with. Since guns are uncommon in Hong Kong, it is a treat to be able to use them during missions, especially in vehicles.

Using cars and motorcycles is the primary transportation. Each vehicle has their own characteristics, and the ability to purchase different cars and motorcycles is a lot of fun. It does not take long to acquire a lot of money to purchase different vehicles to use.

You will spend a lot of time on the road and thankfully the size of fictional Hong Kong is digestible and actually fun to drive around. The cars have the ability to bump other cars which is useful when running from police or trying to stop an escaping Triad.

There is so much to do in Sleeping Dogs that the smaller size of Hong Kong gives you a perfect amount of freedom while allowing for sandbox gameplay.

Graphics

Like most stylized games, Sleeping Dogs takes a side-step with realism. Since Sleeping Dogs takes place in Hong Kong the majority of characters are Asian. The few Caucasians are thankfully built off different models. Most of the generic characters that fill the world are copy-and-paste, but you do not spend a lot of time with them in particular so it does not matter.

Main and secondary characters have a great amount of detail, though there is a discrepancy of detail from in-game to cutscenes. Sometimes even cutscenes make characters look slightly less detailed.

Hong Kong is split into different sections and each one has its own look giving a different feel as you exit the highway and enter that part. The different towns have a great amount of detail and the vehicles have distinct properties. It looks and feels like a realistic version of Hong Kong from the characters to the architecture of the world.

While not as highly detailed as other games, the immersion Sleeping Dogs provides is excellent.

Sound

There's a lot of sound in the game from voice acting to the environment.

Voice acting in Sleeping Dogs is some of the best for the main characters to the funniest for generic people in Hong Kong. The primary cast provide a convincing and great experience. Each of the main cast of characters make the world in Sleeping Dogs feel real.

On the other hand, generic characters are presented with a highly accented English accent that is kind of embarrassing. English is not the primary language in Sleeping Dogs' Hong Kong, so it is strange to hear the accented English.

The world is a lot of fun to listen to. From the radio stations in cars to the markets or populated areas, there is always an immersive amount of sound.

Sleeping Dogs may not have Oscar-caliber voice acting, but it is among the best for sandbox games.

One of the best sandbox games

Sleeping Dogs offers a lot to experience. The Hong Kong setting presents an entirely different tone and theme to sandbox games while offering a polished combat system and driving mechanic. The plot is intriguing for the most part, though some of the side-missions are annoying.

The overall package that Sleeping Dogs offers is amazing. It is nice to finally see a game that presents a world with flawed characters rather than the hero stereotype. The hours of enjoyment that Sleeping Dogs provides is incredible.

Sleeping Dogs is one of the best sandbox action games in 2012.

This is a fun game that's packed full of vengeance, drama and gunfire. Total Overdose is an open-world shooter, a little in the style of GTA. You have your main mission, which will see you battling a variety of baddies, and you can also explore the border town you're based in, Los Toros, racking up points as you go along.

In his fight to find out the identity of his father's murderers, Ram Cruz is joined by his brother, Tommy. Total Overdose offers you a selection of weapons to do the job, and as you progress you'll get more and more arms as you take out the bad guys.

Total Overdose reuses the bullet-time technique, created by the Max Payne series, but it goes a step further and makes it even more original with the addition of "special moves". It might take you a little time to get to grips with them, but make the effort. In Total Overdose, it's an extreme case of kill - or be killed.

Fun, fast and bullet-filled, Total Overdose is excellent fun.

A classic Wild West drama

After a quick modern detour with The Cartel, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger follows a classic storyline that you'll recognize from most cowboy films - bounty-hunters, bad guys, and shootouts. It's simple, but effective, with a totally linear story that you progress through by looking for your bad guy, who, as you might guess, will be protected by a band of gunslingers. As bounty-hunter Silas Greave, you must finish them all off, and claim your reward.

Heading West

Make no mistake: when the developers designed Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, they wanted to make a game that kept players entertained without making them think too much. Your aim is to take down some of the most infamous gunslingers around, using a varied arsenal that includes rifles, revolvers and even dynamite, if you're lucky.

You'll see places like classic wild west saloons, mines and ranches. You'll need to use everything to have to hand to defeat the band of outlaws and, just like in the movies, things are likely to end in a duel with your main target.

Classic Wild West weapons

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a standard, first person action game. Levels are very linear, and enemy AI looks a lot like it did in early iterations of games of this type. In other terms, you know exactly where they're going to come from, and when you need to shoot them. Advanced strategical planning skills aren't needed here - you really just need to shoot and leave.

Strangely, the game contains some unusual aspects. For example, some of the duels are QTE (quick time events) and some enemies repeatedly use dynamite as their weapon of choice, something that doesn't seem very fair.

A unique take on graphics

Nobody would claim that Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a game that's intended to look realistic. The style, which is sort of comic-like, is done very well, with particular praise going to the fluidity of characters and the visual effects associated with shots and explosions.

We were big fans of the game's soundtrack. The story is narrated, which keeps you up to date while playing the game, and we also liked the music, which is nicely varied.

No-strings fun

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger gives you exactly what it says on the tin: a first-person action game where you need to hunt down some of history's most famous gunslingers. With technical prowess, fun gameplay and great soundtrack, it's a great wild west game for PC.

If the "Finding Nemo" film is on your favorites shelf, you already have a hint that you'll probably enjoy the graphics and objectives to this light-hearted video game.

Just like in Feeding Frenzy 2, the goal is to overcome the Shark King. To do this, you have to face off against a variety of different sea creatures. Your only weapon is your stomach and the sky's the limit as to what you can eat. Just be careful not to chomp on something harmful or end up getting eaten yourself. In Feeding Frenzy, it's definitely survival of the fittest.

Feeding Frenzy's Deluxe version features cartoon-like graphics that children will enjoy but some experienced gamers might find a bit juvenile for their tastes. The game isn't particularly challenging but it is amusing to see your character get increasingly large as you move through the later levels. Since there's very little violence present in Feeding Frenzy, it's a great option for younger children or people who prefer not to deal with gory scenes during their forays into PC games.

Feeding Frenzy is a simple game that'll keep kids entertained but can't hold a candle to games with better graphics and more challenging gameplay.

Gameplay

The intense shootouts are told through flashback, as Max recounts how his life has hit rock bottom in the city of São Paulo. Cut scenes flow flawlessly into the action, which makes Max Payne 3 really immersive. I hope we see more of this seamless action in GTA V too.

The various multiplayer modes include the excellent 'Gang Wars' that plays out like a mini saga between two gangs. Bullet time is well integrated into multiplayer too, so that anyone in your line of sight is also switched into bullet time when activated.

Graphics and Sound

The multiplayer in Max Payne 3 means you'll be playing the game for a long time to come, but the single player campaign too offers some significant challenge. Even with Hard Lock, this game gets tough, but makes it all the more satisfying when you succeed.

Mods are a great way of enhancing your GTA IV experience. They can do all manner of cool things, like change the third person perspective into a first person point of view or letting you drive a Formula One Ferrari.

SuperMan Mod for GTA IV gives you an opportunity to fly around Liberty City like Superman himself. After installation, your character can take to the skies when you press F5. He'll be controlled by the same keys you use for helicopters. Clicking F6 will allow you to use the mouse.

This mod is fun and the graphics are colorful. You can really get into the action of GTA IV in an entirely new way. Unfortunately, the controlled flying mode currently still has no collision.

Similar to Mafia 1930 but far more detailed, Mafia 2 is set between 1940 and 1950 and is based in Empire Bay, which, though fictional, is based on a hybrid of New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Detroit. Like other roleplay-based games, you've got to maneuver your character around the city to complete certain tasks. The can include stealing cars, collecting firearms and interacting with other computer-controlled characters.

There's a lot of variety in Mafia 2, especially in terms of the sheer amount of choice you have when choosing weapons. You've got your Thompson submachine gun and Colt 1911, but then there's also a Remington 870 pump-action shotgun, an MP 40, M3 submachine gun and more. Firearms enthusiasts will certainly get a kick out of all of these weapons and their portrayal in Mafia 2.

In addition, you can choose between performing standard actions and violent ones throughout Mafia 2. You can also hide behind certain objects, run for cover and shoot simultaneously at enemies, which most users will see as a pretty cool feature. There are even three different radio stations you can tune into while playing the game: Empire Central Radio, Empire Classic Radio and Delta Radio.

In terms of graphics, Mafia 2 is top-notch. Life-like and crisp, Mafia 2 won't leave experienced gamers disappointed. The only complaint some might have is that the game might freeze up or lag occasionally on older PCs.

Mafia 2 is a must-try for serious gamers who want World War II era thrills.

The game's objectives involve completing several missions, gathering objects and of course, killing all the evil creatures you'll find on your way to the final boss. And the best part in the game is precisely these fights against demons, monsters and other strange living beings. Being a hack and slash adventure, Devil May Cry 4 focuses on close combats and enables you to perform extraordinary movements and incredible combos with your sword and a new powerful weapon, the Devil Bringer. Plus, battles feature a hard-beating background music that reminds me of the Blade original soundtrack and which only make them more exciting.

The graphics in Devil May Cry are impressive. I tested the game on a Vista machine with DirectX 10, and I can tell the game makes the most of the computer's resources, rendering beautiful landscapes, realistic light effects and smooth movements.

On the downside we find game's controls. You can really tell this game was originally developed for consoles, because it's really hard to control it with a keyboard. If you have a gamepad you can plug into your PC, I'd recommend using it even if it's only to test the demo.

Devil May Cry 4 presents us with a new episode in the war between Nero and Dante against the forces of evil. Great graphics and brilliant battles make of this game a worthy action adventure, despite its difficult keyboard controls.
