Some anime never go out of style. They achieve such deep and lasting success that they always seem to be in the discussion of the general public. That’s the case with Solo Leveling, a web novel and manwha written by Chugong that has been continuously successful since its serialization began in 2016 on Kakao Kakao Page. And while it lacked a video game adaptation, that may not be for long.
Last night, Solo Leveling Arise was announced, almost by surprise. An action RPG based on the popular anime that will put us in the shoes of Sung Jinwoo, seeking to level up to become the most powerful person in the world. Unfortunately, we can’t say much more about it. With a trailer of just over a minute where only a few seconds of gameplay can be seen, it aesthetically appears to be extremely faithful to the anime.
What we do have more details about is its developers. The first adaptation of Solo Leveling to a video game is being handled by Netmarble. This is a Korean studio specialized in mobile game development, which in its origins worked extensively on the development of MMORPGs. Some of their most popular games are anime adaptations, such as Tower of God: New World or Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, although their most popular game is Arena of Valor, a MOBA indebted to the legacy of League of Legends.
Solo Leveling, on the other hand, puts us in the shoes of a young man with magical powers named Sung Jinwoo who, after seeing his entire group practically annihilated, receives a peculiar power from an entity calling itself The System: the inability to team up with anyone, but the ability to level up without limits. Something that serves as a premise for a series of endless battles while discovering the truth behind his world, and that serves as a perfect excuse to shape an action role-playing game.
With an approximate release date set for May 8th, you can pre-register to try it out upon release on the Apple Store, on Google Play, or on PC. This will ensure that you can start playing from the first minute of its release.
