Kia EV Owners Gain Access to Tesla’s Supercharger Network

In a significant development for electric vehicle (EV) owners, Kia has announced that as of today, its models EV6, EV9, and Niro EV can now charge at Tesla’s Supercharger network in North America.

This expansion allows Kia drivers access to 21,500 new DC fast chargers, nearly doubling the previous availability of 10,500 charging stations.

This news aligns Kia with ten other auto manufacturers, including Ford, Rivian, GM, and Hyundai, all of which already utilize Tesla’s Supercharger stations.

The increased access underscores the growing trend of collaboration among different brands in the EV market, which is witnessing intensified competition.

However, Kia owners will need a specialized adapter to utilize Tesla Superchargers. For those who purchased a 2024 or 2025 EV6 or EV9 post-September 4, the adapter will be provided free of charge.

Other owners will face a fee of $249 for the required adapter, which aligns with the average pricing for similar devices. Furthermore, the new 2025 Kia EV6 models equipped with a native North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug are yet to hit the market, although their pricing has recently been announced.

Previously, plans to enable Kia vehicles to access Tesla’s Supercharger network were set for January but were eventually delayed to spring amidst various challenges, including temporary charging solutions. These delays may have frustrated many potential Kia EV users eager for expanded charging options.

With Kia now fully integrated into Tesla’s Supercharger ecosystem, the landscape for EV charging continues to evolve, offering consumers more choices and ultimately driving the transition towards sustainable transportation. As the EV market grows, it remains to be seen how these advancements will influence consumer preferences and the competitive dynamics of the automotive industry.
