Audi has officially unveiled the A6 and S6 Sportback E-Tron, the first vehicles to utilize the Volkswagen Group’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE).
This innovative platform is designed to enhance driving dynamics, increase interior space, and improve electric vehicle efficiency.
The A6 E-Tron, in particular, boasts a rapid charging capability of 800 volts, allowing drivers to recharge from 10% to 80% in a mere 21 minutes, with an estimated range of up to 392 miles.
Audi plans to transition to a fully electric lineup by 2033
The design of the A6 E-Tron reflects Audi’s commitment to aerodynamics, featuring a remarkable drag coefficient of 0.21. Enhanced visual aesthetics include customizable light signatures and an advanced digital interior with multiple touchscreen displays.
Audi plans to transition to a fully electric lineup by 2033, with an electric model in each key segment by 2027 and a new combustion model debuting in 2025.
The A6 E-Tron exemplifies the brand’s new naming convention, where even-numbered models are designated for electric vehicles. This vehicle aims to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW i5, and Tesla Model S.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner reaffirmed the company’s commitment to electrification, indicating a flexible approach as automotive landscapes evolve.
Both the A6 and S6 E-Tron will launch in the summer of 2025, with the S6 featuring an advanced air suspension and unique tire configurations. While the A6 E-Tron showcases powerful performance specs—such as single-pedal driving and regenerative braking—the U.S. market will see some features limited by regulations, including certain customizable light functionalities.
However, with smart charging solutions and improved performance metrics, the A6 E-Tron positions Audi as a formidable player in the electric vehicle market.
