Every time we talk about a delay here, we always say the same thing: “Bad news.” And that’s true, we won’t deny it, right? A video game getting delayed is always negative from the user’s perspective because there’s so much anticipation to be able to play it, to get hands-on with it. However, then there’s the logical part, the one that tells us that the delay can stem from a multitude of factors, from further polishing (to make it better, which is what we desire) to even a marketing move. This latter aspect is more common than it seems, though it’s not often acknowledged… unless you’re Alan Wake 2.

It’s commendable for Remedy Entertainment to openly state on social media that their upcoming major project will be delayed by 10 days on the calendar due to a straightforward business move aimed at better performance. It’s that simple.

Through a Twitter post, the Scandinavian studio has announced that Alan Wake 2’s release is pushed back from October 17th to October 27th. And yes, the reason is that “October is an amazing month for game releases” and they simply want to “give everyone more space to enjoy them.”

We must not forget that during that October month, we’ll have the second part of Marvel’s Spider-Man or Super Mario Wonder on the 20th, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set for the 5th, and the list goes on.

Certainly, Remedy’s response has been well-considered. However, what’s truly remarkable is the transparency with which they’ve communicated it. Generally, such decisions aren’t openly shared, so it’s appreciated that there’s such a high level of trust: yes, the delay is due to the abundance of games, and it’s better to give time for some so that people can enjoy others more in the future.
