The Epic Unreal Engine 3 could soon be coming to Android phones, giving mobile gamers the chance to play titles like Bioshock (below), Medal of Honor, Gears of War, Borderlands, and Unreal Tournament. Droid Gamers suggests that Epic’s powerful 3D games engine is already being tested on Android devices.
The Droid Gamer article cites the tweets of Mark Rein, Vice President and Co-founder of Epic, as evidence that Android could soon be equipped with Unreal Engine 3. The game engine has recently been confirmed for iOS, so if Epic rolls it out for Google’s mobile platform too it would be a major boon for Android.
Another bit of good news for Android gamers, is the announcement by EA Mobile that it intends to ramp up its Android games offering. Speaking at the Deutsch Bank Technology Conference 2010, as Gamasutra reports, EA’s CFO Eric Brown said: “I think there’s a lot to happen in the future in Android, and we’re trying to position our mobile business to take advantage of that trend”.
These are promising times for Android, and the willingness of these big developers to jump into bed with Google backs up my claim that it could become the greatest mobile gaming platform of the future.
