Anthropic is taking a big leap forward with a major update to Claude Research, bringing it into the heart of productivity: Google Workspace. With this move, Claude transforms from a smart assistant into a powerful research and workflow companion, capable of streamlining your workday with intelligent document handling, meeting prep, and advanced research tools.
Claude integrates with Gmail, Docs and Calendar
The new Workspace integration allows Claude to connect directly to Gmail, Google Docs and Calendar, offering users smart support across everyday tasks. From summarising emails and identifying upcoming meetings to locating the files you need, Claude can now assist with a simple query. Users can ask questions like “What are my key meetings this week?” or “Summarise last week’s action items” and get tailored, real-time responses.
The new Research mode adds depth to your queries
Claude’s Research mode, now in beta, turns it into a dedicated research assistant capable of multi-step searches. It pulls from internal documents and online sources, delivering detailed, citation-backed results. This tool is especially useful for teams who rely on accurate, well-rounded insights, whether for strategic planning or content creation.
How to try the update
The Google Workspace integration is in beta for all paid Claude plans, while Research mode is limited to Max, Team, and Enterprise users in the U.S., Japan, and Brazil. To test it, users need to enable Research mode in settings and connect Workspace access via profile settings. Admins may need to approve access for team-level plans.
Claude’s evolution signals a bold move in the productivity AI space, challenging Gemini and Microsoft Copilot with a research-focused approach to smart work assistance.
