Apple has released software updates for all its devices. iOS 18.0.1, iPadOS 18.0.1, macOS Sequoia 15.0.1, watchOS 11.0.1, and visionOS 2.0.1 focus on bug fixes and performance improvements, especially for the newly launched iPhone 16 and Apple Watch Series 10. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.
iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1: Security and Stability
The iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 updates issues related to system security and stability. In particular, iOS 18.0.1 addresses a bug with microphone access on the iPhone 16, which could allow audio messages to record a few seconds of sound before the microphone indicator—the small green dot—was active.
An issue is also resolved where the touchscreen could temporarily stop responding on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. This caused the camera to not respond when recording videos in macro mode with the Ultra Wide Angle camera in 4K, and with HDR disabled on the iPhone 16 Pro. It was also causing the Messages app to unexpectedly close when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face.
Additionally, the update resolves an issue with the password application where the VoiceOver accessibility feature could read aloud saved passwords.
As for iPadOS 18.0.1, the update the bug that had forced Apple to temporarily withdraw the original version of iPadOS 18 for some iPad Pro M4 models, due to inability to complete the installation, has been fixed. The new version of iPadOS 18.0.1 ensures stability for all compatible devices.
macOS Sequoia 15.0.1: Improvements in Messages and more compatibility
macOS Sequoia 15.0.1 is the first update for the macOS Sequoia operating system. This version fixes a bug in the Messages app, which could cause the app to unexpectedly close when replying to a message that contained a shared Apple Watch face.
Additionally, improvements have been made in compatibility with third-party security software.
watchOS 11.0.1: Solutions for Battery Life and Display
Apple has also released watchOS 11.0.1, a minor update that fixes some bugs in the Apple Watch operating system. Among them is one that could cause an unexpected restart, and the closure of the Music app. It could also cause the battery to drain faster than expected. It also fixes a bug that could cause the touchscreen to not respond properly on some models of Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2.
As with macOS, the bug that closed the Messages app when replying to a message with a shared sphere is also fixed.
visionOS 2.0.1: Some Tweaks in Safari
Finally, Apple has updated the visionOS operating system to version 2.0.1. This update resolves an issue that could cause Safari to not respond properly when playing YouTube videos—important now that we can no longer use Juno—as well as an issue that could cause Safari web extension data to be lost after updating to version 2.
As in macOS and watchOS, the bug that closed the Messages app when replying to a message with a shared watch face is also fixed.
With the recent updates from Apple for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS, each of our devices receives improvements in performance and stability. We can install them in the Settings app by going to General and then Software Update. In a few minutes, our iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch will work even better.
