Argylle is the new film by Matthew Vaughn, the director behind Kingsman and Kick-Ass. In it, he has teamed up with Henry Cavill to tell the story of a super spy who is dragged into a treasure hunt that takes him all over the world. However, the secret agent’s turbulent past quickly endangers his mission.

The film is one of the most anticipated action movies of this year, and it finally premieres this week. But, what does the critics think about Argylle? Is it a new success from one of the most entertaining directors in recent memory or, on the contrary, is it a new flop? Let’s see.

Argylle seems to have convinced (almost) no one

With 37% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 100 reviews, it is clear that Argylle has not had the expected result. Critics say the following about the movie:

“It is expected to have silly/stupid movies in January and February. However, when such silly/stupid movies have a duration of two hours and 19 minutes, a line has been crossed, and not in a good way” – Jeanne Kaplan, Kaplan vs Kaplan

“It’s a spy comedy that lacks excitement, barely flirts with romance, and provokes uncomfortable laughter. If it had been made by the pre-2015 Matthew Vaughn, it could have worked” – Sherin Nicole, Geek Girl Riot

“Argylle starts off intriguing. Then it becomes confusing, then tedious, and it continues like that for what feels like an eternity” – Leo Brady, A movie guy
