Barbie has become an unprecedented mass phenomenon and has once again put the most mythical doll of the twentieth century at the top. Undoubtedly, 2023 has become the year of Barbie thanks to Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, and even those who said they hated this Mattel toy have become fans.

But what if the Barbie adaptation had been different? Without a doubt, Gerwig has been a great director, but everything could have been different if instead of her it had been another director who had been behind the cameras. Someone like, for example…. David Lynch.

A coffee commercial starring Barbie and directed by David Lynch… well, okay.

Taking advantage of Barbie’s virality, many Internet users have taken the opportunity to recover a short film that David Lynch directed a decade ago. And, to everyone’s surprise, it stars a Barbie doll. Actually, it is an advertisement for David Lynch’s own line of coffee, called David Lynch Signature Cup Organic Coffee, but certainly this audiovisual work is not to be missed.

In the ad, we see a Barbie’s head held by a human hand, a close-up that shakes the whole time. While we see this, we hear a conversation between David Lynch and Barbie herself… voiced by himself. It is a disturbing short film that makes very clear the artistic intentions of this filmmaker.

That itself, as a coffee ad is great. even if only for the effect of caffeine to make us forget this. Curiosamente, Lynch has been shown ultrafan coffee, recognizing drinking a 20 cups a day. Maybe there comes your crazy hyperactivity?
