The popular cooperative 2D horror simulator, Barotrauma, has been updated with the new expansion Calm Before the Storm, which introduces a wide range of features and improvements to enhance the gaming experience in the alien oceans of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. Among the most notable additions are new missions, alien ruins, and a themed outpost for PVP confrontations, all designed to increase the intensity of underwater explorations.
A significant improvement for the game
The developers, Undertow Games and FakeFish, have highlighted that this update not only adds new content but also improves the artificial intelligence of the bots. Players can now expect smoother and more realistic interactions with automated crew members. Another significant improvement is the rebalancing of the radiation mechanics, which previously could be excessively punishing; now, there are even creatures that benefit from exposure to radiation, adding a new level of strategy to the game.
Additionally, the Calm Before the Storm update introduces new modules for abandoned outposts, designed by community modder NotWendy, who has also created custom submarines available through the Barotrauma workshop on Steam. This not only highlights the creativity of the community but also enriches the content available for players seeking new experiences in the game.
For those who haven’t tried Barotrauma yet, this is an ideal time, as the game is available at a 50% discount on Steam until April 26. Described as a mix of FTL and Rimworld, where survival is a constant challenge and betrayal is part of everyday life, there is no better opportunity to dive into its dark and exciting world.
