When all game developers announced that the future of the medium would follow the “Fortnite-like” model (divided into seasons that would be updated every quarter), many of us thought that the system wouldn’t be able to handle so many ‘Fortnites’ at once. And indeed, that’s been the case. The latest to fall has been ‘Battlefield 2042’ after a respectable seven seasons: the game, which appeared in 2021 to lukewarm reviews – to put it kindly – reaches its final stop, but that doesn’t mean that EA is willing to let go of its golden goose. Or something similar to gold, at least.

Battlefield: the console

The good part, if you are a fan of the franchise, is that the lack of future updates does not mean that the servers will close, so you can keep shooting to your heart’s content until they announce the next game, which they have already announced will be terribly ambitious. In fact, to help them, EA has assembled a team from Motive Studio, the creators of ‘Star Wars Squadrons’ or the remake of ‘Dead Space’. Big words.

The team has been chosen for “their proven experience in storytelling, creating immersive battles, and developing on the Frostbite engine.” However, that doesn’t mean you should expect the next Battlefield made by them tomorrow morning. On the contrary: the team has already stated that it is not their only priority and they are still working on the ‘Iron Man’ video game which could be the hit that our hearts need to hold onto our love for superheroes.

Does this mean that we won’t have a new Battlefield game until we forget about the saga? Not necessarily: ‘Battlefield 1’ and ‘Battlefield V’ (first of all, no confusion with the names) were released with a two or three-year gap, and that’s probably what they will end up looking for by having multiple studios working on their projects at the same time. Get your machine gun ready, because it may not be silent for many more months.
