Netflix has several cash cows on its platform, and it is clear that Money Heist is one of them. The Spanish series premiered on Antena 3 in 2017 and became one of Netflix’s biggest successes when the VOD service bought it at the time, and its upcoming seasons took the phenomenon to a global scale that very few fictions have achieved.

Now, with the series finished and even a Korean version of Money Heist released, it has been its spin-off that has managed to continue making the myth great. Berlin, a prequel to the fiction starring the beloved character played by Pedro Alonso, has shattered all kinds of records and has become the biggest Spanish success on Netflix since 2021. These are its numbers.

The most watched Spanish series since Money Heist

In the first week of its release, from December 25th to 31st, 2023, Berlin achieved 74.3 million hours streamed and 11.3 million views on Netflix. It doesn’t reach the numbers of Part 2 of Season 5 of Money Heist, which in December 2021 achieved 189.2 million hours streamed, but it is well above the rest of the Spanish series from the same production company.

Berlin surpasses, therefore, season 5 of Élite, which achieved 51.38 million hours streamed in 2022. It also surpasses Muted, Arón Piper’s series that was also a great success at the time… and stayed at 35.1 million hours streamed.

It is clear that Berlin had everything in its favor to work, but the reviews have also been very good and have confirmed that this spin-off of Money Heist made sense. With these good numbers, now it only remains for Netflix to renew the series for a second season. The creators of the series have already confirmed that they have ideas for new heists, so it’s just a matter of waiting for them to be confirmed.
