Netflix is clear that it is going to squeeze its successes to the maximum, and this is something that applies to each of its big productions. From highly anticipated spin-offs of Stranger Things to reality shows that come directly from Squid Game, the streaming platform doesn’t waste a moment in showcasing the best of its IPs. And, obviously, this directly affects La Casa de Papel.
Money Heist, as it was translated into English, is the biggest Spanish success on Netflix, and on Netflix they have taken advantage of it by even making a remake in South Korea. Now, Netflix’s biggest bet to continue exploiting La Casa de Papel is Berlin, the spin-off based on the character’s past that will premiere on December 29th.
The big difference between Berlin and Money Heist
Berlin is the official prequel to The House of Paper, and in it we will follow the famous robber putting together a group like Ocean’s Eleven to carry out one of his big heists before joining forces with his brother, The Professor, to attack the Spanish Mint and Stamp Factory. This approach could be risky considering that it may resemble the original series quite a bit, but it has a twist that could make it a great success.
This particular twist is the focus of the series. Instead of having that dramatic thriller tone of La Casa de Papel, Berlin has a much more relaxed, even comedic and fun tone, which so well characterizes the character played by Pedro Alonso. In this way, we are facing a much more fun and lively series than the previous one, with more vivid colors and less dramatic than one might expect. A success in differentiating these two cultural products.
